There are many advantage to a safari in the south: Unlike in the north game viewing is from open sided vehicles. Both Selous and Ruaha are fly-in destinations and this avoids the long drives of the north. Flights are frequent from both Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam
Walking (and in Selous) boat based river safaris are permitted
Both parks are much much less touristy than the north - indeed you will never see clietns from other camps, and will never come across a minibus !
The south is much easier to take a short safari to
There are a number of other parks in the South (Southwest) - Katavi and Mahale. These parks are extremely difficult and expensive to get to and are only accesible by Charter flight from Ruaha - A return fare is about $5,000 for the plane! However, if budget permits, these are amazing parks and you will often be the only guests at each location. Please telephone or email to discuss these options further.
