serengeti
The Serengeti is undoubtedly the best national park in the north. Bordering the Masaai Mara in Kenya, the Tanzania side is far less touristy and its sheer size means it is possible to spend a long time here without getting bored. Most clients spend from 3 to 5 nights in the Serengeti alone. The best time to witness the Migration is between May-July and Jan-March, however with the exception of late July to early September, the Migration remains in Tanzania

This is where most people spend the majority of their safari. Huge expanses of short grass plains make game viewing exceptionally good. The Serengeti is justifiably famous for its huge concentrations of game especially the predators (lion, leopard and cheetah) and of course the migration at certain times of the year. Most clients either Luxury Camp or stay at the Serena / Sopa lodge (great location with a "swimming pool with a view").

The Serengeti has 3 distinct areas - the Seronera area (which is roughly in the middle) which has good resident game all year round, and the northern and western corridors which are good when the migration is in these areas. Balloon flights can be arranged from most Serengeti hotels and cost about $375 per person.
Driving time from the Ngorongoro Crater is about 6 hours

Camping

Camping safaris can arranged in Private Camp sites where everything is done for you. With ensuite shower and loo and in the middle of nowhere many clients feel that this is the best way to experience the Serengeti. Basic camping trips can also be arranged though the saving is not all that great

Serena

The best hotel in the Serengeti, though large it has great rooms, food and a wonderful swimming pool. Rooms are of set in groups of 3 (one up, two down). The Serena is in the Seronera area of the Serengeti which has the best resident game.

Sopa

Built just before the Serena the Sopa has comes a close second to it. Food is not quite as good, although many find the views better. Like the Serena, the Sopa has a great swimming pool and views over the plains. The rooms are slightly larger than at the Serena and better for triples

Kleins

Set outside the Serengeti in a private game reserve, this ConsCorp property is a fantastic small permanent lodge. Its drawbacks are its location (it is in the far north of the Serengeti), where game is more seasonal and the price. Since it is outside the Serengeti walking and night drives can be undertaken here

Grumeti

Set in the Western corridor of the Serengeti this ConsCorp property is a fantastic small tented lodge. As with Kleins its game is very seasonal and it is also very expensive. Very close by is the Grumeti river in early July is where the wildebeest cross and are often pulled down by crocodiles. This is one of the Serengeti's greatest spectacles

There are other lodges in the Serengeti - Ndutu, Lobo, Migration Camp, etc. Please telephone or email for further information.
