An ideal location for a longer safari (4-7 nights), often combined with Selous. Ruaha offers game viewing by foot as well as from open sided vehicles. A very distinct landscape of rolling open plains, ancient baobabs and hills. Particularly good for predators and all other game and birds. Very remote and often described as the "real Africa". Completely unspoilt by tourism.

Return (3 times per week) flights from Dar or Zanzibar cost about $700 and take about 1 Hour, 40 minutes. Most guests combine Ruaha with Selous since the flight to Ruaha stops in Selous and the two locations make a great contrast. Ruaha is one of our favourite locations in Tanzania combining excellent game viewing with a lack of tourists. Mwagusi is one of the best small owner run lodges in Tanzania and Chris Fox is one of Africa's best guides.

Mwagusi Tented Lodge
8 Luxury thatched and tented rooms. Great service and superlative game guiding including walks and vehicles. The accommodation is very private, each room has it's own veranda overlooking the sand river. Food is very good and evening meals are taken under the stars with the sounds of Africa all around.

Ruaha River Lodge
Wonderful location although larger and less personal than Mwagusi. The accommodation has been recently updated and the riverside Bandas are excellent. The guiding is led by experienced and knowledgeable guides and the vehicles are new and efficient.
